Flints are the remains of sponges that lived on warm
seabeds back when dinosaurs stalked the Earth. When the sponges died, their
remains eventually became the microscopic quartz crystals that form the core of
a flint. ’Knapping’, or splitting, the flints reveals this core for the first
time in over 100 million years.
Our knapped chalk flints are approximately 75–150mm
in size. They typically present a blue/grey/black face to the world, bordered
by a white chalk skin. Knapped flint also combines well with brick to produce
hard-wearing and stylish walling.
